Finding My Place in the Tufts Graduate Community

When I began my graduate journey at Tufts University, I was eager to explore how technology and policy intersect in shaping global security. I chose Tufts because its Cybersecurity and Public Policy program perfectly combines technical expertise with public policy insight, a balance that aligns with my interests and long-term goals.

Now in my first year, second semester, I have realized that Tufts offers far more than academic growth; it’s a place that encourages leadership, collaboration, and community building. One of the most rewarding parts of my experience has been serving as the Graduate Student Council (GSC) Community Chair for 2025–2026, where I help create programs and events that connect graduate students across schools. Through this role, I’ve learned the importance of fostering a sense of belonging and ensuring that every student feels part of something larger than their individual program.

I also represent graduate students on the School of Engineering Curriculum Committee and the Policy and Programs Committee at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, where I’ve been able to represent the voices of graduate students in important conversations about academic programs, policies, and student welfare. These leadership experiences have helped me understand how collaboration and advocacy shape the graduate experience, and how much impact students can have when they engage actively in university governance.

Another transformative aspect of my journey has been the opportunity to cross-register at the Harvard School of Engineering this fall. Thanks to Tufts’ strong partnerships and proximity to Boston’s world-class academic network, I have been able to broaden my studies, connect with professionals from different backgrounds, and engage in conversations that bridge technology, policy, and innovation. The connections I have made across Boston, from researchers to policy experts, have strengthened my academic and professional outlook.

If there is one thing, I wish I knew before graduate school, it’s how essential community is. Tufts has shown me that academic success thrives on meaningful connections with classmates, professors, mentors, and friends. Being part of the GSC has given me not only leadership experience but also a strong sense of purpose and belonging.

Looking back, I am grateful for how Tufts has helped me grow as a student, leader, and global thinker. The opportunities here have given me confidence, perspective, and a strong community to belong to. And this is only the beginning of the journey.
