How Tufts is Preparing Me for a Career in Sustainability
One of the main reasons I chose to pursue my MS in Sustainability at Tufts is the program’s strong emphasis on real-world application. My department, the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning, has a LinkedIn group where sustainability job postings are shared daily. Additionally, professors are well-connected in the field and often introduce students to alumni working in relevant sectors. These connections can lead to mentorship opportunities, job referrals, and valuable career advice.
3. Hands-On Experience Through Field Projects
One of the most impactful parts of my Tufts experience has been working on a field project with East Somerville Main Streets (ESMS). My group is helping ESMS with their Cultural District application, which involves researching best practices, engaging with community members, and developing recommendations for sustainable economic growth. This project has given me a firsthand look at how sustainability intersects with local policy and economic development. The field projects program in the Sustainability program ensures that students don’t just learn about sustainability in theory but also actively contribute to real-world solutions. With this, you leave your master's degree with academic knowledge and experience.

Beyond coursework and networking opportunities, Tufts’ Career Center provides career advising, resume workshops, and interview preparation to support students throughout the job application process. These resources have been invaluable in helping me refine my application materials and prepare for interviews.
