Why Tufts?
Â
When I received my acceptance to Tufts University, I was walking back to my apartment in New York after a long day at my job. A job I knew I did not like enough to create a career out of. I started applying to graduate schools a few months prior for exactly the same reason. I felt stuck in my job, because I had realized that there were significant gaps between where I was at that moment and where I really wanted to be. I decided to go back to school to earn a master’s degree because I knew it would help bridge that gap and align me with my goals. Getting the admission letter that day felt great, but I had a decision to make between Tufts and the other schools I had gained admission into.
So, why Tufts?Â
I chose Tufts not only for the excellent education it promised or the revered faculty or even the picturesque campus. Ultimately, I made the decision because I felt like Tufts was invested in me and my journey from the beginning. I was not accustomed to the level of support I received from the various offices and professors I emailed with, well before I even committed to Tufts. For reference, I attend the University of Kentucky for my undergraduate degree in Economics. While a great school by all means, there were upward of 35,000 students enrolled at any given time. Naturally, it was hard to feel seen at such a large institution, and this was the complete opposite feeling I was receiving from a school I had not even started at yet!Â
This experience, coupled up with the fact that the Data Analytics program's emphasis on developing the skills needed for practical applications of data analytics, only made the decision easier to make. In the time spent since my program began, all of those things still hold true. I feel connected to the campus because I know there are people rooting for me, and I feel adequately challenged in all my classes. Although I was in a not-so-great situation prior to coming here, I would not change the circumstances which led to my ultimate decision to attend Tufts.Â
There’s only so much I can say in a short post, but to wrap up, a huge shoutout and thank you to the Office of Graduate Admissions, Office of Financial Aid, and all my professors !
