2021-2022 Tuition and Aid

 

The cost of a graduate education varies, depending on the amount of support you receive. The types of funding (scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships) available to support students vary by school and program. To learn more about funding opportunities, applicants should contact the department to which they are applying.

Graduate School of Arts and Sciences

  • Tuition for M.A. and M.S. programs (except as noted below) is charged for one year only. The 2021-2022 tuition is $54,196 for the entire program and includes graduate-level courses taken in the summer or in the second year of the program. Economics MS students who stay on for the Research-Based Program will be charged on a per-credit basis during their second year. The 2021-2022 rate is $1,799 per-credit.

    The annual tuition for the M.F.A. in Studio Art is $48,896 for 2021-2022. The payment of tuition is required for two years.

    There are many scholarships and financial aid packages available. To learn more about specific master's degree financial aid packages, applicants should contact the department to which they are applying.

  • Occupational Therapy Programs

    Tuition for the Entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate is billed over three years:

    • First year: Full tuition, AY21/22 – $54,195 (summer, fall, spring)
    • Second year: Full tuition, AY22/23 – TBD* (summer, fall, spring)
    • Third year: Half tuition, AY23/24 – TBD* [Summer 12-week fieldwork (with fieldwork seminar); Fall 12-week fieldwork; spring 14-week doctoral experience/capstone with faculty mentorship and doctoral seminar)]

    Tuition for the Post-professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate and the Post-professional Occupational Therapy M.S. is charged for one year. The 2021-2022 tuition rate is $54,196.

    *Final tuition rates are established in May for the following academic year.

    Education Programs

    Tuition for the M.A.T. programs is charged on a per credit basis. The per credit charge is $1,200. Each semester’s billing will be based on the number of credits taken.

    The annual tuition for the School Psychology M.A./Ed.S. program is $47,456 for 2021-2022. The payment of tuition is required for two years.

    UEP Programs

    The 2021-2022 tuition for the M.P.P. program is $54,196

    The annual tuition for the Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning (M.A.) and the Environmental Policy and Planning (M.S.) is $39,080 for 2021-2022. The payment of tuition is required for two years.

  • The tuition for full-time Arts and Sciences Ph.D. students is covered by tuition scholarship. Many departments also offer a research or teaching assistantship with admission. Students enrolled in a Ph.D. program are provided the student health insurance free of charge for six years. To learn more about specific Ph.D. program packages, applicants should contact the graduate director of the program to which they are applying.

  • The 2021-2022 tuition for most certificates offered by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is $998 per credit. The rate also applies to courses taken in the summer. Students enrolled in the certificate programs listed below pay a reduced rate. The reduced tuition only applies to courses required for the certificate. The 2021-2022 per-credit tuition for these programs is as follows:

    • Early Childhood Technology (hybrid) - $582
    • Occupational Therapy School-Based Practice (online) - $832

  • Students who are admitted to undertake a program on a part-time basis register for one or two courses a semester and pay the prevailing per-credit rate each year until they have registered and paid for all credits required for the degree. The 2021-2022 tuition for part-time students is $1,799 per credit including credits taken in the summer. Part-time students pay the prevailing per-credit rate each year until their degree is completed.

  • The 2021-2022 tuition for the Post-Baccalaureate Mathematics program is $998 per credit.

    The tuition for the post-baccalaureate certificate in Studio Art is $44,034 ($22,017 per semester) in 2021-2022

School of Engineering

  • Starting in the Fall 2022 semester, the School of Engineering will be billing newly enrolled, full-time and part-time master’s students by credit hours. The current per credit rate for the 2021-2022 academic year is $1,697. The per credit rate is subject to change. The total degree cost is determined by the total number of credits needed for the MS degree and the per credit rate in place at the time that a student enrolls in a course.

    MS student tuition rate for 2021-2022:

    • $50,910 ($25,455 a semester)
    • Tuition will be charged for two semesters. The rate includes all courses required for the degree, including courses taken during the summer or in the second academic year.

    Online MS in Computer Science student tuition rate for 2021-2022:

    • $56,001
    • Tuition is billed on a per-credit basis. At the current per-credit tuition rate of $1,697, the total tuition cost for the 33-credit program is $56,001.

    Online MS in Data Science student tuition rate for 2021-2022:

    • $54,304
    • Tuition is billed on a per-credit basis. At the current per-credit tuition rate of $1,697, the total tuition cost for the 32-credit program is $54,304.

    Tufts Gordon Institute tuition rates for 2021-22:

    MS in Engineering Management (Part-time, On-campus, Online or Hybrid): $54,304

    • Tuition is billed on a per-credit basis at the time that course(s) are taken. At the current per-credit tuition rate of $1,697, the total tuition cost for the 32-credit program is $54,304.

    MS in Innovation & Management (Full-time, On-Campus): $50,910

    • The total tuition is divided into $25,455 per semester and covers courses taken in the summer.

  • Doctoral tuition is $4,597 per semester in 2021-2022. Full tuition is charged for nine semesters unless the student enters the program with an appropriate master’s degree, in which case tuition is charged for six semesters.

  • The 2021-2022 tuition for School of Engineering certificates is $1,697 per credit, with the exception of the online Teacher Engineering Education Program (TEEP). Tuition for the engineering education certificate is $250 per credit. These rates are also in effect for the summer.

    Tuition for the post-baccalaureate certificate in Computer Science and the Offshore Wind Energy Engineering post-baccalaureate program is $1,697 for graduate-level courses (numbered 100 and above) and $990 for undergraduate-level courses (numbered below 100).

  • Part-time student tuition rate for 2021-2022:

    • $1,697 per credit, including credits taken during the summer.
    • Students who are admitted to undertake the MS or PhD program on a part-time basis register for one or two courses a semester and pay the prevailing per-credit rate each year until they have registered and paid for all credits required for the degree. Students who revert to part-time after beginning their program will be required to pay the full degree charge regardless of the number of courses they have left to complete.

    • Tuition is billed on a per-credit basis at the time that course(s) are taken. At the current per-credit tuition rate of $1,697, the total tuition cost for the 32-credit program is $54,304.

Ancillary Fees

  • A Graduate Student Activity Fee of $62 is assessed to students in master's and doctoral programs to support the activities of the Graduate Student Council.
  • A Health Insurance Fee of $3,755 is assessed for comprehensive individual medical coverage for students. If desired, coverage is also available for spouses and children. Students who are admitted full time, and part-time students registered for seven (7) or more credits, are automatically enrolled in the student insurance while tuition is being charged. The insurance may be waived if proof of outside coverage from a US carrier is submitted.
  • A Comprehensive Student Health Fee estimated at $958 for use of Tufts health and counseling services is mandatory for students enrolled in the student health insurance. Students who are admitted full time, and part-time students registered for seven (7) or more credits, are required to pay the comprehensive health fee while tuition is being charged. The health service fee may not be waived.

Continuation Policies and Fees

  • Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
    All students will be charged continuation tuition for each semester after their expected degree completion period (two years for most master's students; three years for master's students in occupational therapy (entry-level program), school psychology, and urban and environmental policy and planning; three years for entry-level OTD students; and six years for Ph.D. students). The 2021-2022 continuation tuition is $1,000 per semester.
  • School of Engineering
    All students will be charged continuation tuition for each semester after the tuition requirements for the program have been satisfied. The 2021-2022 continuation tuition is $950 per semester.
