DeVante Love
PhD in Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies
Greetings. I am DeVante Love a best-selling author, Life Transition Counselor, multilingual monk, and martial arts master. If I'm not traveling for work, I'm probably at home watching anime, meditating, or creating choreography for an upcoming performance. My research at Tufts examines how QTPOC engage in performance practices like Voguing at Balls or Cosplaying for personal liberation and collective healing.
Ryan Daubenmire
PhD in English
Ryan Daubenmire is a first-year PhD student from Northern California. Prior to attending Tufts, he received his BA from the University California, Berkeley and his MA from the University of Chicago.
His research centers around literature's ability to communicate subjective states of mind, connecting with readers and eliciting various physiological responses in the brain. Moving forward, he aims to explore the reciprocative relationship between literature and the brain: how literary devices—particularly metaphor—allow for the expression and conveyance of trauma, as well as how the brain correspondingly facilitates these mechanisms.
Madelyn Jungbluth
PhD in Psychology
My name is Madelyn Jungbluth, and I am an incoming PhD student in Psychology under the mentorship of Dr. Lisa Shin. Prior to coming to Tufts, I graduated in May 2023 with honors from the University of Michigan, where I studied Neuroscience and German. At Tufts, I plan to study learning, memory, and other cognitive functioning using methods such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in individuals with disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. I hope to apply this knowledge to the development of novel mental health treatments in an effort to strengthen mental health treatment options and outcomes.
Mathías López
PhD in Education
My name is Mathías López, and I am an international student coming from Uruguay. I am a mathematics teacher and have always been passionate about the teaching and learning of mathematics. I have decided to pursue a PhD as I am interested in exploring the development of early algebraic reasoning and how this type of thinking intertwines with computational thinking. Moreover, I have a special interest in exploring children's different representations within functional contexts.
Nicole Toumanios
PhD in Child Study and Human Development
I will be pursuing a joint doctoral degree in Human Development and Cognitive Science under the mentorship of Dr. Eileen Crehan. We share an interest in integrating underrepresented populations and voices in autism research.
My research has focused on the physiological, behavioral, and cognitive basis of neurodevelopmental disorders like autism spectrum disorder and dyslexia. I am fascinated in the assessment and intervention tools used to mediate social skills, academic achievement, and neurodevelopment.
